Equity Bank was founded after the collapse of its predecessor Equity Building Society which was started in 1984 and declared insolvent in 1993. It was founded with a vision to serve the ordinary Kenyan by targeting the low to medium income earners. This has given the bank a wide customer base throughout the country with a niche in the micro to medium market segment.
