Formed in 1970 under the State Reinsurance Corporation Act and initially wholly government owned, Kenya Re has so far enjoyed a monopoloy as the sole local re-insurance corporation and is one of the largest re-insurers in Kenya. The corporation covers risks globally including Asia, Europe and other African countries. Kenya Re also receives a large portion of its income from its investment portfolio that includes real estate, listed shares and debt securities.
