KPLC is the main transmitter, distributor and retailer of electrical energy in Kenya through sole ownership of the national transmission grid. Originally also the main generator of electrical energy, the company was split into KPLC (supply) and KenGen (generation) in 1997 with KenGen being the main supplier of electrical energy to KPLC.
